Quick Estimates

Giving customers an immediate vehicle valuation with minimal input — reducing drop-off and increasing part-exchange conversions for Cazoo.

Overview

The challenge & the opportunity

Why? Provide customers with an immediate non-guaranteed valuation for their vehicle based on positive assumptions and by inputting minimal vehicle and user details.

Challenge: To communicate that the estimate the customer sees is not guaranteed.

Allowing customers to get a valuation faster would also help the business understand the intention of customers who complete a full valuation — as currently customers have to fill out a long form and enter personal details before seeing a valuation.

Currently, 40% of customers who land on the "About Your Car" page do not complete the form to receive a valuation. The biggest drop-offs in completing the valuation form for sell car are at the mileage (24.2%) and customer details (11.4%) sections.

Customers looking to sell or PX their vehicle often start their journey by valuing their vehicle to compare against competitors. This initial valuation is a key factor about whether a customer will PX or sell their vehicle to Cazoo.

Outcome

Results

The project successfully reduced incomplete valuations to 32%, which led to a 2.6% increase in users selling cars and a 1.2% increase in users buying a car with part exchange — meaningful commercial gains driven by a simpler, faster user experience.

Process

Research & ideation

The process began with workshops to surface themes and ideate with stakeholders on potential directions. These sessions helped align the team on the core user problem and explore a range of solutions before committing to a direction.

Solution

The final design

The solution allows customers to receive an instant, non-guaranteed estimate by entering only their registration number and mileage — removing the lengthy form that was causing the high drop-off rate. The design makes clear that the figure shown is an estimate, setting the right expectations while still giving customers the confidence to continue their journey.
